WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4
This entry was back-published.
I met JOSH tonight. He is my neighbor living directly below Ford. JOSH is an American with a Japanese wife, like Parker. They have a young son, who is just four months and was all smiles. Quite the handsome little fellow. They were kind enough to let me use their internet this evening. After I found the fax number for my internet, thank all, I managed to check my e-mail, and even slip onto Facebook to update my status. I haven't been able to do any facebook stalking yet, but that's coming soon.
(Interesting side note, Facebook, when I logged in, as I was logging in from Japan, where it hadn't seen me yet, actually made me enter a lot of information to confirm that I was not someone hacking the account but actually me. It was nice to know they are concerned, although it was nothing more than proof that I was human and my birthday, which is pretty much public information anyway. And then a lovely screen popped up that said that they had reenabled my account, which was frightening. I don't like thinking about it being disabled or deleted. But then, Facebook doesn't delete, now, does it?)
Finally, I ran upstairs and got a flashdrive with my blog, typed for days now in OpenOffice. It wasn't the smoothest of updates, especially since I had figured I'd have internet again before getting it updated. I'll have to check and make sure later that all of my names were changed to pseudonyms, but I worry I've missed some. If you see one, comment, and I'll fix that. I also had to instantaneously come up with some names, which don't follow my preexisting format, so some might also change later. But for the general non-stalking reader, that shouldn't be an issue.
JOSH and I talked a lot about the students and their level and teaching in Japan. It was very helpful and also good to be able to talk to someone honestly. I can't quite do that with my teachers at school – it would be rude to say that I'm surprised by how little the students know – and get a more experienced insight. When I told Mischievous-sensei that I had a sign language class in which the (hearing) teacher did not say a single word the entire semester, but I learned TONS, he was quite skeptical. That's the kind of total immersion environment that my students will have with me, and that I want them to have.
Dinner was okay. I need to figure out if it's possible to mix roux with melted butter.
