Taping Papers to Blackboards

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16

I rushed into school and talked to Mustache-sensei about the lesson for the day. He wanted to know what students would be doing in the classroom while I was in the hall listening to students' oral examinations. I mentioned that I had some worksheets and cross-word puzzles and that was perfect. I'd made a lesson plan for the teacher, but it became clear that he would be supervising, not teaching.

I spent my first hour, which I thankfully have off – I recommend it for any schools with ALTs, but Koko is my only high school that does it – pulling out all my extra papers ever handed out and organizing them on a row of desks on the side of the English room. I then taped a copy of each worksheet that students could work on to the boards in an organized fashion. This would thus make it as easy as possible for the teacher running the class while I was out.

So I listened to more exams. I'm pretty much memorizing these things.

I spent the night dreading going to Nishi. Last week's lesson was just so frustrating that I just didn't want to deal with it. The early morning doesn't help to endear me to it. Luckily Elizabeth and I have scheduled to meet up after school, so I have that to look forward to. I know I'll need it.
